Memoir Project
Students will write a reflective narrative about a significant event or choice that has shaped their life or the life of someone they interview as preparation for the college admissions process, scholarships, and future interviews and applications that require candidates speak of their life experiences. We revisit and build on students’ skills using narrative devices introduced in the 9th grade while developing a more nuanced understanding of these devices, especially in the areas of syntax, tone, voice, pacing, interior monologue, and how sensory details can help convey a message. Reflective WritingThroughout the year, students practice reflective writing in journal responses, and share anecdotal stories with their peers. Emphasis is placed on not only describing the experience, but reflecting on it. As part of this practice, students are also asked to reflect on their development of personal traits related to the IB Learner Profile.
